Tonight was a beautiful, starry night and a pleasant evening. It is the first evening I recall making observations in above freezing temperatures! Mars is almost directly overhead at the time I made tonight's observation. The moon has not come up and so there is little other light except the reflections of some towns on the horizon. I had wondered if Mars would get to the point where it would be impossible to make out surface detail. So far, that has not happened, but I am less and less confident about what I am seeing. The tripod remains slightly unstable, and that causes some vibration in the image. Perhaps I can work on that this weekend. Also, of course, Mars is much dimmer.
Regards,
Mycroft
