12 January Observations
Right ascension 5 hours, 42 minutes, 51 seconds
Declination 26 degrees, 57' 9"
Magnitude -1.2
Distance from Earth: 0.655 AU
There is now no doubt that Mars is getting more difficult to see. It is still a very bright object, but does not stand out as brightly against a bright backgound of stars. I had more trouble than on previous nights focusing the telescope. When it was focused, Mars appeared as an orangish disk, with surface features difficult to see. I wonder if they will disappear from view completely this month.
